Setup Lync 2010 on Windows Phone 7, solve the "Can't connect to the server" error

Background

Since Microsoft is offering Office 365, I’m a hugh fan of it, but it’s only since yesterday that I migrated my PIM solution from Kerio Connect to Office 365.

I choose the Office 365 E3 subscription because I do IT and this one offers advanced IT configuration and control, an Office Professional Plus license and Active Directory integration.

In my configuration, I keep my old mail sever running (because over the years I have created many anti-spam custom routing rules) and forward all e-mail to user@domain.onmicrosoft.com. I also added my own vanity/custom domain to Office 365. All pretty much as described in the Simple Domain Sharing for SMTP Email Addresses article. Step 3 of that article tells you to change your primary e-mail address to the one of your own domain. This is an important step, because it will change your user name for all services. Now I have have Outlook w/ Exchange, SharePoint and Lync on the PC and it all works fine.

But with Lync 2010 Mobile on the Windows Phone, it was another story. The client kept saying ‘Can’t connect to the server’. This post describes what I did to fix it for myself.

Configuration:

2 domains:

domain.onmicrosoft.com
domain.com (set to shared, but as primary; explained in steps 2 and 3 here)

Steps:

Start Lync 2010 on Windows Phone
Enter sign-in address: user@domain.onmicrosoft.com
Enter your password
Check ‘Remember my password’
Enter User name: user@domain.com
Toggle ‘Auto-detect services’
Leave the internal discovery address blank
Enter the external discovery address: https://meet.lync.com/Autodiscover/autodiscoverservice.svc/Root
Save the configuration

This should work. Have fun!

KPN bids to buy Getronics

The dutch telecom company KPN has made a €6.25 a share cash offer to take over the IT services group Getronics. Thats 766 million euros ($1.1 billion).

And today KPN announched that they already bought 10 percent of the shares.

Actually, the colors green (KPN), blue (Getronics) and pink (PinkRoccade) look beautiful together! :-)

Flying to Bangalore... delayed... medical problems

I am currently in an Air France Airbus A340 airplane. Everything went fine this morning, my colleagues picked me up from home, we travelled to the Schiphol Airport, checked in and took the airplane from Amsterdam to Paris . I'm really excited to go!

The Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris has very strict security checks. We had to wait for a long time in the queue. The security offers checked my handbagage for almost everything lol.... my laptop was even tested for nuclear stuff. When everything was ok we got into the airplane, where I still am lol. The plane was already moving until somebody from the cabin crew got a medical problem. I don't know whats happening now... we'll have to see. Unfortunatly.

I hope that I can write my next article from my hotel (www.presidenthotel.in) in Bangalore, India.

Microsoft Biztalk 2006 course

Today I started with a 5-day 'QuickStart' course about Microsoft Biztalk Server 2006. The course is delivered at the Microsoft training facility in Barneveld (see map).

It was a very interesting day. After a funny introduction round (the American trainer was unable to pronounce the dutch names ) he gave an overview of the Biztalk product. He talked about the receive and send port, adapters, pipelines, orchestrations, schema's and the mapper.

Tomorrow a next day, its bed time for me now because the course starts at 8.30am. Some photo expressions:

Going to the CeBIT tomorrow!

Tomorrow (Saturday) I will go to the CeBIT, together with Marvin. The CeBIT is one of the largest technology fairs in the world and is being held in Hannover, Germany from 18th - 24th March.

In Hannover, we'll meet Mathieu, Jorrit, Maarten, Thijs and Hilco, colleagues of mine. I will visit the booths of Wibu, MindTree, Adapt and Logitech for sure and hope to see many many more! The last 2 years, I visited the CeBIT with Lennert and stayed 2 days which was already too short. This year I will go 1 day, because I need to be back on Sunday for Dave's birthday.

I will write about my impressions and new cool products!

Hi to all!

I had some problems with my old blogger weblog. Finally I found some time to migrate to a new weblog system. I'm now using the SubText system, it looks pretty cool!

The plan is to blog more often than I did before. We'll see about that!
